Language and translation
Become more efficient - integrate the translation process
The language and translation process is a very important part of information handling that is very important to revise. It often takes quite some time, but is also linked with relatively high costs.
Translate for yourself or seek help from the professionals?
Allowing your own colleagues in different countries to do the translation can work out cheap and smart but, as well as having their professional knowledge, professional translators are also assisted by tools that rationalise their work. We at Elanders have incorporated these tools into Elanders Publishing Platform.
Re-use translations that have already been done
A translation memory enables you to re-use texts and translations and thereby save a great deal of money. A translation memory saves all unique phrases and their translations. When new documents are translated, the memory is used to identify and re-use previous work. Depending on the type of text, etc., different amounts of texts can be re-used. A saving of 15-30 per cent is not unusual compared with translating manually.
Do you have special technical terminology or information?
A terminological database is a tool for editors and translators. If you set up a defined terminology, you obtain higher quality original texts and translations, not to mention greater efficiency. Technical texts lend themselves well to translation using system support from a translation memory. This type of text often has a high degree of re-use. The shorter the texts, the easier it is to use previous work. Long texts, e.g. manuals, normally have a lower level of re-use than things such as product descriptions in a catalogue.
