Integration

Work that is done for computers, not people
When sections of information that is handled already exist in one or more in one or more systems, it's a good idea to integrate these, particularly if the flow of information is extensive and continuous. In this case, manual handling is practically impossible. When information is moved manually, for example by cutting and pasting, there is always potential for error. The more stages and people involved, the greater the risk of error.

If there is a risk of error sources in a flow, there is always a need for control. Checking information is time consuming and costly. When transferring prices from a business system to a pre-formatted pricelist, several people and stages are often involved. In order to guarantee that everything is correct, proof-reading is required, a control that could be precluded or minimised if integration was automated.

Same text in several places
When you link a document, a text can be printed and kept in a single place but occur in many places, in one or more documents. When the source is updated, all instances of the text are updated. Every time a source text is linked and reused, manhours are saved, and this also reduces the number of possible error sources, as well as the risk of deviations. Texts that are written once and reused in several places can be translated, examined and approved once instead of ten times.

Information on the Web is often copied
A great deal of information you find on the Web is a copy of information published on another channel. Using a system that can publish the content of several channels, e.g. print and Web, you can avoid a great deal of duplicate work. If you have a number of products that are published in a product sheet, in catalogues, on the Web, etc., it's impossible to keep all the channels updated. If you also have ten different languages, there may be thirty different documents or pages to update if there is one single change to a single product. When you publish information on the Web and in other electronic media, there is a greater need for an information handling system with a parallel publication function.
